JSCMU-Chapter 119: Midnight Visit
by Jun JunMa Hongyu quietly observed.
He didn’t even know what kind of outcome he wanted.
If the problem really lies in the jade pendant, not only would his years of effort become a joke.
There would be a real issue.
That was Ye Cheng’s future.
The Sect Master clearly wanted Ye Cheng dead. As his master, was he just supposed to sit back and watch?
Ma Hongyu’s thoughts were in chaos.
He recalled some scenes from the past.
His first disciple was Ye Cheng.
This Ye Cheng had talent, was sensible, respectful to his elders, kind to his fellow disciples and, needless to say, held a genuine love for spiritual plants.
Ye Cheng followed him for so many years that the number of times he left the spirit fields could be counted on one hand.
Using the phrase “indifferent to worldly affairs” to describe Ye Cheng was perfectly accurate.
This time, he was dragged into the storm, but it wasn’t his intention.
Yet the final consequences were borne by Ye Cheng.
Ma Hongyu couldn’t help but bite his lip tightly.
No matter what, if the Sect Master truly wanted to kill Ye Cheng, then no matter what, he had to save his disciple.
But…
How?
Ma Hongyu sat there, completely at a loss.
Just then, someone suddenly sent a transmission.
Ma Hongyu paused, and as if driven by a ghost, he reattached the jade pendant to Ye Cheng’s waist before going out and opening the barrier.
The visitor was a disciple. After glancing at Ye Cheng lying on the bed, he said with some sympathy, “This Yun Jin is really lawless. Senior Brother Ye has been wronged.”
Ma Hongyu’s thoughts were in a mess, so he merely gave a bitter smile.
The disciple assumed he was simply too angry to speak and didn’t dwell on it. He took out a delicate porcelain bottle and handed it to Ma Hongyu, “Uncle-Master Ma, this is a secret healing medicine bestowed by the Sect Master. He said that after taking it, if nothing unexpected happens, Senior Brother Ye will wake up in one or two days. With this medicine, you don’t need to worry.”
“Many thanks to the Sect Master for the medicine.” Ma Hongyu put on a surprised and grateful expression.
That disciple then went on at length about how rare and effective the pill was, and how much the Sect Master had worried for them the master and disciple.
Ma Hongyu listened with an emotional face, nodding repeatedly. Only after that did the disciple take his leave.
As soon as the barrier closed again, Ma Hongyu’s expression changed instantly.
The first thing he did was remove the jade pendant again and place it far away, then turned to examine the porcelain bottle with a strange expression.
He took out a pill and sniffed it.
It was indeed a top-quality secret healing medicine.
But whether it would be effective for Ye Cheng’s situation, that was another matter entirely.
Ma Hongyu sadly realized that, compared to the Sect Master, he actually trusted Yun Jin more.
He did not give Ye Cheng the pill. He simply continued waiting.
Meanwhile, that disciple had already returned to Zhao Wuji to report.
Zhao Wuji asked casually, “Ye Cheng was injured, wasn’t he wearing the jade pendant I gave him?”
The disciple quickly said, “He was wearing it. Even now while unconscious, it’s still hanging properly. This time, Senior Brother Ye was just overly agitated and passed out from stress. That’s why the pendant didn’t activate.”
“This Yun Jin really is detestable.” Zhao Wuji’s lips curved into a subtle smile. He asked again, “After giving the pill, how did Ma Hongyu react?”
The disciple replied, “He was full of gratitude.”
Only then was Zhao Wuji satisfied. “Alright, you may leave.”
Inside the cave dwelling.
One hour passed.
Two hours passed.
Three hours passed.
Just as Ma Hongyu began to doubt whether Yun Jin lied to him, Ye Cheng slowly opened his eyes.
“Disciple!” A trace of joy flickered in Ma Hongyu’s eyes.
Ye Cheng was dazed for a moment, then immediately got out of bed and respectfully said, “With an elder present, this disciple continued to rest without permission. That was impolite. Please punish me, Master.”
Ma Hongyu looked helplessly at this serious disciple, then said, “You’re injured, there’s no need for formalities.”
Injured…
Only then did Ye Cheng slowly recall the conflict with Yun Jin.
“The Crescent Grass…” Ye Cheng asked instinctively.
“Not harmed in the slightest!” Ma Hongyu said with mixed feelings.
This was already the third or fourth time the boy asked about it.
Ye Cheng sighed in relief, then prepared to leave to check on it himself.
Ma Hongyu quickly grabbed him, “Don’t move! Let me ask you first, how do you feel physically?”
Ye Cheng moved his limbs and circulated his spiritual energy, then answered honestly, “There’s no problem at all.”
Ma Hongyu narrowed his eyes.
The Sect Master gave a pill, saying that after taking it, Ye Cheng would wake up in one or two days.
But Ye Cheng didn’t take the pill. Only the jade pendant was removed. And yet, he woke up in four hours.
This meant.
The Sect Master giving the pill had, in a way, confirmed that the jade pendant was problematic.
“Disciple,” Ma Hongyu said softly, “you can’t go outside for now. At least not for the next couple of days.”
“Why?” Ye Cheng asked, confused.
Ma Hongyu didn’t know how to explain. He could only say softly, “That’s an order.”
Although Ye Cheng was worried about the spiritual plants outside, since his master gave an order, he naturally had to obey. So he nodded.
“I have something to take care of. Stay here. Don’t leave the cave dwelling. If someone comes to visit, don’t make a sound, and don’t let anyone in, not even your fellow disciples. If anyone tries to force their way in, contact me immediately. Do you understand?” Ma Hongyu’s expression turned serious.
Right now, the fact that the Sect Master wanted Ye Cheng dead was certain. As his master, Ma Hongyu had to find a way to carve out a path of survival for him.
And that path to survival…
Might still lie with that person!
Ma Hongyu was so serious that Ye Cheng didn’t dare be careless and hurriedly agreed.
Only then did Ma Hongyu leave the cave dwelling in haste. Before leaving, he specially added several more layers of barriers.
It was late at night now, and everyone knew Ye Cheng was recovering from his injuries, so under normal circumstances, no one would come to disturb him. If anything unexpected happened, he could rush back right away.
Ma Hongyu put on a black cloak and went around a large circle before taking a small trail into the Heavenly Sword Peak.
As soon as he arrived, Gu Jinghong was already waiting there.
Ma Hongyu’s heart couldn’t help but jump.
Gu Jinghong said softly, “Master has already known that Uncle-Master Ma would come, and specifically asked me to wait here. Please, Uncle-Master Ma, this way.”
Only then did Ma Hongyu steady himself and follow Gu Jinghong to meet Yun Jin.
“Uncle-Master Ma,” Yun Jin got up obediently to greet him, “What I did during the day was somewhat inappropriate. I hope Uncle-Master will forgive me.”
Yun Jin admitted her fault right away, which caught Ma Hongyu off guard.
He wanted to say something, but in the end, he could only sigh, “If you hadn’t stirred things up like that, that foolish disciple of mine might’ve died quietly without anyone noticing.”
He now understood that Yun Jin’s actions earlier in the day were to help him realize the issue with Ye Cheng in advance.
He owed this debt.
“As long as Uncle-Master doesn’t mind me being meddlesome,” Yun Jin smiled sweetly.
Ma Hongyu lowered his voice and got straight to the point, “The Sect Master wants to kill Ye Cheng. Since you already know there’s something wrong with the jade pendant, can you cure the poison?”
He didn’t know what kind of tampering was done to the jade pendant. He examined it repeatedly and found nothing unusual. Yet Yun Jin noticed the issue early on.
Perhaps she has a solution.
