JSCMU-Chapter 11: Glutton’s Meal Set
by Jun JunYun Jin quickly tightened her grip around Si Wanning.
Yue Zhao, never one to miss a jab, couldn’t help but snark, “If you weren’t a woman, I’d have thought you were taking advantage of Little Junior Sister on purpose. Second Junior Sister, do you know what the scariest thing in the world is? It’s when someone like you can fly a sword without ever passing a proper test!”
“I should immediately submit a formal proposal to the elders! From now on, before anyone learns sword flight, they must pass a three-stage test: first the written knowledge, second is reverse-sheathing and curved-flight navigation, third—”
Yue Zhao rambled on endlessly.
Yun Jin couldn’t help herself but to glance sideways at him.
She had traveled through countless worlds, and now, she was vaguely suspicious that this Yue Zhao was a bit strange. This Senior Brother of hers didn’t feel like someone from this world.
His complaints sounded awfully like a transmigrator too.
Si Wanning’s face had gone red with frustration. If Yun Jin weren’t clinging to her, she would’ve charged at Yue Zhao to fight him then and there.
Yue Zhao kept flapping his mouth all the way to the dining hall.
The moment they landed, he instantly shut up and pasted on a warm, spring-breeze-like smile.
Up ahead, two disciples in the Qi Refining Stage were in the middle of a heated argument, clearly one breath away from a fight.
Yue Zhao hurriedly stepped forward, his voice all patience and grace, “We’re all from the same sect, why resort to violence? It’s fine if you hurt each other, but what if you frighten the flowers and grass nearby? We should use words instead…”
Yun Jin gave Si Wanning a look.
Si Wanning leaned close and whispered, “He always puts on this act outside.”
Yun Jin nodded in understanding.
Ah. The façade.
As Yue Zhao continued acting as the peacemaker, the disciples nearby began to murmur with admiration.
“That’s Senior Brother Yue Zhao from Heavenly Sword Peak. Among his generation, he’s the only one who still cares about us low-level disciples.”
“What a good person.”
“So honest, so reliable, so kind-hearted.”
“Such a pity…”
The moment they noticed Si Wanning approaching, everyone shut up and slinked away awkwardly.
Si Wanning acted as though she hadn’t noticed their unfinished comments. “Ignore him. Let’s go find something to eat.”
The dining hall was open around the clock, and it was currently bustling with disciples.
At one table in particular, a crowd had gathered, and excited shouts rang out from time to time.
Yun Jin curiously looked that way.
Si Wanning followed her gaze and explained, “That’s the dining hall’s newest addition, the Glutton’s Meal Set. Only disciples under the seventh level of Qi Refining Stage can order it. If they finish all the dishes in half an incense stick’s time, it’s free. Otherwise you pay full price.”
She lowered her voice, “Your brilliant Eldest Senior Brother came up with the idea. The others don’t know yet, so keep it between us.”
Glutton’s Meal Set?
Yun Jin’s eyes instantly sparkled.
If there was one thing she was best at right now, it was definitely eating.
Xuan Jue had been simplified into one rule: eat to gain spiritual energy.
Before changing to another cultivation method, everything she ate could be turned into spiritual energy.
Her stomach was practically a bottomless pit!
“Second Senior Sister! I want that! I’ll take one set!” Yun Jin declared without hesitation.
Si Wanning was startled. “Little Junior Sister, don’t be rash! The portion size is massive, no one had ever succeeded in completing the challenge. Even with spiritual energy to help digestion, the time limit and Qi Refining Stage restriction make it nearly impossible. Even the ones in seventh level can’t clear it.”
Yun Jin just grinned. “It’s fine. I’m really hungry.”
Si Wanning hesitated, then felt around in her storage pouch.
Good. She had enough spirit stones.
Gritting her teeth, she called out, “One Glutton’s Meal Set!”
The hall fell silent at that moment.
Everyone turned to look in shock.
The chef behind the counter blinked, surprised. “This meal is limited to disciples under the seventh level of Qi Refining Stage. I’m afraid your cultivation level doesn’t qualify.”
Si Wanning snorted, “Who said it’s for me? I’m ordering for my Little Junior Sister. Is there a problem?”
She stepped aside to reveal Yun Jin.
Yun Jin waved politely. “It’s for me.”
The unfamiliar face made many frown.
News of the entrance test hadn’t spread through the sect yet, and nobody recognized her.
“Late stage in the fourth level of Qi Refining Stage,” the chef said after a quick scan. “Qualified to order.”
Just then, a voice rang out from the corner, “Time’s up. Challenge failed.”
The latest contestant groaned and clutched his stomach, too pained to speak. He desperately circulated spiritual energy to process the mountain of meat in his belly.
“Tsk, even Senior Brother Lin failed. This challenge must be unbeatable.”
“Hey, look over here, there’s a fourth level who’s about to try it!”
“What? Lin’s at seventh level and still failed. What’s a fourth level doing here?”
“Heard she’s a new recruit from Heavenly Sword Peak. Can’t believe they’re still accepting people up there.”
“Probably got tricked into it. Poor girl.”
While the crowd whispered, plate after plate of meat was brought to Yun Jin’s table.
Each one stacked high like a miniature mountain. Sitting before them, Yun Jin looked like she’d been buried in meat.
Si Wanning whispered, “This is only the first batch of five plates. The full challenge has fifty. Don’t push yourself too hard. Overeating can lead to discomfort.”
Yun Jin stared at the feast before her, eyes glistening. She was almost moved to tears.
She was just short on food.
And now, food was lining up and delivered right to her door!
There really were many kind people in Tianxing Sect!
Seeing Yun Jin’s eyes slightly red, Si Wanning couldn’t bear it and said, “Little Junior Sister, if it really is too much, we can just—”
Before she could finish,
Yun Jin had already grabbed a massive chicken leg and began eating furiously.
The moment it entered her mouth, the chicken leg transformed into spiritual energy, directly replenishing her Dantian.
It felt so satisfying that Yun Jin couldn’t help but show a look of enjoyment.
Standing beside her, Si Wanning sensed the spiritual energy fluctuations coming from Yun Jin’s body.
She felt a little unwell.
???
What’s going on with this little junior sister?
Her spiritual energy rose again just from eating a chicken leg?
By the time Yun Jin finished her first plate of meat, Si Wanning, trembling slightly, realized that Yun Jin’s spiritual energy had actually broken through to the fifth layer!
She hurriedly helped conceal the spiritual energy fluctuations, so others wouldn’t notice anything strange.
“Yo, she’s pretty fast with the first plate. Must’ve gone hungry for days.”
“Others have tried this starvation method too, but after one plate they were basically full. This newcomer probably won’t get past two plates.”
“I bet she won’t finish even the second one.”
Yun Jin ignored the chatter. Right now, all she could see was the meat!
The second plate was quickly converted into spiritual energy, then the third, fourth, and fifth followed.
Was Yun Jin eating meat?
No! That was spiritual power!
The meat in the Glutton’s Meal Set contained a trace of spiritual energy, which was far more nourishing than mundane foods like sunflower seeds.
But now that she was already at the fifth layer of Qi Refining Stage, the amount of spiritual energy required to progress was greater than the total of all previous levels combined, so her breakthrough pace had slowed.
Yun Jin originally thought that five plates would let her break through to the sixth layer. But to her surprise, she only managed to reach the peak of the fifth.
“Next batch of meat! Hurry!” Yun Jin urged.
She still needed to level up!
